Hey, this picture shows that it’s possible to accommodate population growth without sacrificing green spaces. It’s not the houses though that take up more green space horizontally. If every house had two giant trees in its front yard and a vegetable garden in its backyard I wouldn’t call it urban sprawl. The problem is fucking turf grass everywhere, and I don’t consider turf as green space! In any case Toronto does a great job at staying green, and should do even better. The high rise residential buildings should seriously stop. The demand for them is artificial, the buyers are often investors who then rent them. Yes there’s a demand for renting units in high-rises, but the demand for ownership is far lower than to explain the boom that we’re witnessing in high-rise development.
